Jointly offered by the University of the Western Cape, the University of Cape Town and the Robben Island Museum, the Post-Graduate Diploma in Museum and Heritage Studies has been designed to provide "fast-track" education and training for staff already working in the heritage, museum and tourism sector, as well as those interested in a career in these sectors.

The diploma is inter-disciplinary in nature and is open to graduates of all disciplines, or to non-graduates who have meaningful practical experience in the museum and heritage sector. The training aims to contribute to the transformation of the heritage sector and to prepare graduates with skills and understanding to implement new policy in the field. It is a broad vocational qualification, which provides a critical understanding of the sector as well as the competencies relevant to heritage work. Participants will engage in theoretical debates in the field of heritage while at the same time undertaking practical projects.
