COVID-19 Campus Update

From the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic

(Published - 17 August 2020)

Dear UWC staff and students

As you are aware, the President announced that the country has moved to alert Level 2. As you may recall, our approved Academic Phased-in Return Plan makes provision for the return of certain categories of students during Level 2. As with Level 3, only students who have been identified according to the criteria will receive permits. This will include students who may return to residences as well as identified commuting students. The University has approximately two weeks to prepare for a phased-in return. The Senate Academic Planning (SAP) Committee will meet on Thursday to discuss the criteria and process for phased-in return.

We will remain online for the rest of the year, and therefore, except for the lab-based and clinical programmes, we will not have face-to-face lectures. This means that we will continue to work remotely as far as possible and Deans of Faculties will work with HR to identify the staff members who may return to campus in a phased-in manner during Level 2.

For any queries, students may contact the email address.

Students in residences may email with any questions.

Whilst the country has been moved to Level 2, we do know that COVID-19 has not been eradicated, and therefore the University will continue to adopt a cautious strategy in order to keep our staff and students as safe as possible. As previously communicated, students and staff are reminded to practice all the safety precautions and to look after their own health.

I wish you all the best for the rest of the semester. The Senate Academic Planning committee will meet on Thursday, whereafter I will communicate the process going forward.

All the best

Prof Vivienne Lawack, DVC: Academic
