Convocation - Election Profiles of Candidates

UWC invites Convocation members to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Convocation on 3 June 2017 and to vote for two representatives to serve on the University Council.

Election of two members of the Convocation to serve on the UWC Council

 Dear Campus Community,

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) invites Convocation members to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Convocation on 3 June 2017, and to vote for two representatives to serve on the University Council from 01 December 2017 to 30 November 2020.


The Convocation includes:

• All UWC graduates (degree holders only)

• Academic employees (all those currently employed on a permanent basis or on contract for a period of one year or more) 

• The Rector, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Registrar, Executive Directors and the Director of Library Services

• Two members of Council appointed to Senate

•​ All persons who were members of the convocation at the commencement of the statute


The election voting station will be in the foyer of the Main Hall. The voting station will be open from 07:30 to 10:00, allowing members of convocation to cast their vote at their convenience. Members of convocation who have received a ballot in the post can cast their votes at the Secretariat located opposite the Financial Aid office in the Prefab block from 08:30 to 16:30 on 31 May 2017 and 01 June 2017, and from 08:30  to 12:00 on 02 June 2017.

 

This 2017 election is of great significance for UWC and we urge members of convocation to take part and express who they would like to represent them on Council.

 

Please see below the brief profiles/information of the candidates for election to serve on the UWC Council:

 

  • Stephen Charles, a payroll manager with a legal background.
  • Nathan Erasmus, a Judge of the High Court who was a founder member of Advocates for Transformation (WC).
  • Clive Hendricks, a lawyer specialising in employment law.
  •  Llewellyn MacMaster, a pastor managing the Civil Society Relations, Division of Social Impact at Stellenbosch University.
  • Songezo Maqula, a peace building and conflict mediator.
  • Brian Williams, a peace building mediator,labour law consultant and an award winning poet.
