SA Women In Science Awards 2018: Call For Nominations

Without advancements in technology and innovation, progress is hard to come by. And without serious investment in science and research, innovation is hard to come by. And without the hard work of hundreds of thousands of women researchers, the whole system comes to a grinding halt.

That’s why the Department of Science and Technology (DST) is proud to honour the country’s most amazing researchers - and is calling for nominations for the 2018 South African Women in Science Awards (WISA).

The theme for the 2018 WISA is leveraging science, technology and innovation to enhance inclusive growth and development.

The awards recognise and reward excellence by women scientists and researchers, and profile them as role models for younger women. The awards will be made to women who are South African citizens or permanent residents.

The awards will be presented in the following categories:

  1. Awards for Distinguished Woman Researchers
  2. Awards for Distinguished Young Woman Researchers
  3. Awards for Research and Innovation
  4. DST Fellowships
  5. TATA Africa Scholarships for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology

Nominations and applications should reach the Department of Science and Technology by Friday 18 May 2018 and should be submitted electronically (using the attached form) to WISAwards@dst.gov.za. No late entries will be accepted.

The 2018 WISA will be presented on 16 August 2018 as part of the Department's celebration of Women's Month.
