 Undergraduate studies at the University of Göttingen (Germany); PhD studies at James Cook University, Townsville (Australia); Visiting Lecturer at the University of Papua New Guinea; National Research Fellow (postdoc) at James Cook University, Townsville; Research scientist and lecturer, Ruhr-Universität Bochum and Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany); Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at the University of Natal (now University of KwaZulu-Natal); joined the University of the Western Cape in 2015.

Principal research interests are
• Phase petrology, reaction textures, geochemistry and geochronology of metamorphic rocks
• Structural geology, from field studies to deformation microstructures
• Thermo-mechanical dynamics of metamorphic terrains and lithosphere-scale processes
