Qualifications: Dr Lawton-Misra is a registered psychologist and a certified life coach. She holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and a Master’s degree from the University of Witwatersrand (Wits). She also participated in the International Executive Development Programme run by the Wits and London Business Schools, as well as the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme held at the Said Business School of Oxford University.

Biography

 Dr Lawton-Misra joined UWC on 1 February 2015 from the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS), where she served in various senior roles. 
She is a registered psychologist and a certified life coach. She holds an MEd Degree from WITS and a Ph.D. from UWC. She also participated in the International Executive Development Programme run by the Wits and London Business Schools, as well as the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme held at the Said Business School of Oxford University.
Dr Lawton-Misra has presented papers at various national and international conferences, facilitated and participated in workshops and seminars, as well as served on many boards. She is currently a board member of the Council on Higher Education (CHE), and a member of the Legal Advisory Committee, a sub-committee of USAf.

As UWC Registrar, her main responsibilities are twofold. She is the custodian of institutional governance (which includes being secretary to Council and Senate and maintaining overall oversight of governance structures and responsibilities within applicable statutory and regulatory frameworks). Secondly she is responsible for academic administration in partnership with Senate and Faculties (which includes, amongst others, the registration of University qualifications and the overarching responsibility for student administration, from applications, admissions, registrations and examinations through to graduation).
The management of all records and data associated with the above responsibilities also forms part of her portfolio. She is the deputy information officer of the University.
