Biography

 Prof Pamela Dube was born in KwaMakhutha, a township on the south coast of Durban. Her educational background is in the field of Literature and media studies, and she has also completed managerial and leadership training programmes at various institutions. Her internationally recognised publications include a special focus on gender issues, postcolonial literature, the oral tradition and the broader media. She holds a BA degree and a BA Honours in Drama and Performance Studies from the then University of Natal in Durban, and a Master’s (cum laude) and PhD (summa cum laude) in Comparative Literature and Media Studies from the University of Siegen, Germany. Prof Dube has enjoyed a versatile career, building a sound track record. She has worked as an educator and university support staff member, and also served as lecturer and researcher at the University of Siegen, Director and Acting Chief Director at the Department of Education, Head of Human Resources and International Relations at the South African Nuclear Energy Cooperation, Special Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Johannesburg, and Executive Director Human Resources at the University of Johannesburg. In addition, she has served on numerous local and international research capacity building and education policy development boards such as the Centre for Education Policy Development (CEPD), including the Higher Education HIV and AIDS programme steering committee. She has received a number of awards and scholarships, such as the Alan Paton Literacy Award and the DAAD German Exchange Scholarship. Prof Dube was Dean of Students at the University of the Witwatersrand before joining us here at UWC.
