 Senior researcher
Vera is a medical doctor who for the last 14 years has held the position of Senior Researcher at the School of Public Health at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. She trained in South Africa and has a MBChB from the University of Cape Town (1993), a Diploma in Child Health from the South African College of Medicine (1995), a MPH from University of the Western Cape (2001) and is currently completing her PhD. She has published in journals such as Health Policy and Planning and the Journal of Tropical Medicine & International Health on issues related to local equity, governance and HIV programming. Her research interests include local governance and district health system strengthening, equity and social determinants of health, HIV/AIDS, and health system and policy research. Her teaching interests include the Primary Health Care approach, and health management and leadership development in developing country contexts.
