Even a fierce South-Easterly wind – better known as the Cape Doctor – could not deter the participating golfers from battling it out on the course for the top prize at another successful Cape Town Golf Day at King David Golf Course in Montana on 20 November 2014.
Steve White and Christo Naude from Tusk Events took top honours, followed by teammates Shannon Gaskin and Paul Smith, with Clive Williams and Brian Felix from Eduloan took third place.
Patricia Lawrence, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Department for Institutional Advancement – who organised the event – noted that Cape Town Golf Days are social events for alumni, where UWC staff and corporate partners mix and mingle, and that the events are hosted to raise funds used to help deserving under-privileged students.
She thanked silver sponsors, Old Mutual, and watering hole sponsors who included Bidvest Managed Solutions, Open Communications, Dimension Data, CommLife Holdings, NBC Holdings, Pro Events and Sanlam Investment Management.
Various prestigious companies, corporations and financial institutions also participated in this popular calendar highlight, and a whopping R170 000 was raised for the Jakes Gerwel Education Endowment and Development Fund, which offers bursaries to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
