UWC Psychology Staff 2018

The UWC Psychology Department has a well balanced reputation of having been involved in South Africa's rich political landscape. Many of its staff and students have moved from student activists to involved academics during the country's political revolution.

Through our active involvement in the surrounding communities of the Western Cape, students and staff still perpetuate a spirit of 'UBUNTU' which remains embedded in the teaching and learning philosophies of UWC.

By empowering communities through skills oriented programmes and alerting younger generations of learners to the enriching power of access to education in their country, communities have become aware of the ability of Psychology to assist in the healing of Apartheid-inflicted wounds.

Through its outreach programmes in small communities we have challenged community members to access their agency and realize the goals and rewards of working together in meaningful ways.

Academic, administrative and/or support staff have through their servitude all aided in the delivery of scholars and practitioners of pristine quality who continue to give back to our communities while proving themselves internationally competitive.

Another focal point of the Department remains fostering a research driven environment where new knowledge is continuously finding its way into South African academia. Our research endeavours include, Substance Abuse, Women's Health and Violence.

We welcome all new students and hope that you will join us in maintaining a community-based, research producing enterprise of which the outputs are visible in academic communities the world over.
