 M. & PhD

Masters & PhD:

The MA (SRES), MA (Bio) and MSc (Bio) programs as well as the PhD (SRES) are programs offered by thesis only, for which you register full time. Masters students are allowed a maximum of three years to complete and PhD students are allowed a maximum of 5 years to complete.  Should you extend your time, you will have to apply to Senate through the SRES Department for extension (and you will be charged an extension fee).  Candidates that do not comply to the time frame might be at risk of being academically excluded. It is important to take note that funding is to be secured by the students themselves. The SRES Department will send notices of bursary opportunities but are not responsible for the funding required to study.

Postgraduate students work on their own pace and according to a schedule developed by both the student and supervisor.  It would be to your own benefit if you are able to have contact sessions with your supervisor on a frequent basis, but electronic correspondence is up to the discretion of the supervisor.

To be accepted into the program you should have obtained at least an average of 60% at previous level of study in order to be taken in consideration for the degree.

*Please take note: Funding for these programmes are to be sourced by the student, the Department is not responsible to find funding sources.
