Welcome to Pilot Thuthuka Programme

SAICA initiated the Thuthuka project as  a consequence of the significant shortage of financial management skills within organisations such as municipalities, as well as other areas within government and the private sector.


 Pilot Thuthuka Programme


The University of the Western Cape Economic and Management Sciences Faculty (EMS) together with the Student Development Support Centre joined forces with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) in a project to sponsor and support 60 top students, per annum, from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Pilot Thuthuka Bursary Programme (PTP) is a bursary that works to empower black and coloured learners from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program currently has more than 300 students from 1st year till Post graduate level.

This year PTP is proud to announce our second batch of qualified CA(SA).

The bursary covers : 

  • Tuition fees
  • Meals
  • Accommodation
  • Book allowance

Besides offering Financial support as stated above, the bursary offers the following as well:

  • Mentoring Programme
  • Community Upliftment
  • Extra tutorial assistance
  • Enhancement of Work readiness and like skills
  • Monitoring student progress through the program

The selection criteria to apply for the program is the following:

English: Level 5
Mathematics: Level 6
Accounting OR Physical Science: Level 5
- The leaner must either be African or Coloured
- Needs Financial Assistance
- Must have completed Grade 12 within a period of two years

Applications for 2018 are now open to candidates wishing to study BCom Accounting 3 year program.
