Children’s rights and family law in African context

Children’s rights and family law in African context

This niche area builds on ground-breaking shifts that have taken place in law and policy consequent upon the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child 30 years ago. That children’s rights has also infused our conceptualisation of families and family law has been widely demonstrated, as it continues to do. The implementation of children’s rights in African context has broad implications for enforcement at regional and domestic level, including through complaints mechanisms, domestic law reform, the ongoing development of customary family law, and constitutional litigation. These all form the backdrop to the various research endeavours, post graduate supervision and other initiatives of the research group.
