The following is a list of Undergraduate Bursary Opportunities that you may wish to explore for funding of your LLB studies. Make sure that you adhere to all criteria and that you take special note of the closing dates of the bursaries.

Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust (Applications Close 30 November 2018)

Who is eligible to apply? Any student from a financially needy background who can demonstrate such need. Our goal is to provide financial assistance for those students who, without additional support would not apply to study further and/or complete their chosen qualification. Preference will be given each year to essential and scarce skills education applicants as determined by the Department of Labour, various SETAs, and other labour and economic advisors.

Further non-negotiable criteria:

• Learners, or unemployed youth between the ages of 16 and 30 years, who want to complete a recognised undergraduate, or other qualification, through a recognised South African institution (overseas and post-graduate study is not negotiable)

• The bursary is only awarded to South African citizens with a valid South African ID number

• Bursary applicants must already have applied for study at the accredited institution and provide proof thereof, on application

• The bursary applicant is not permitted to change the area of specialisation on which basis the bursary was applied for, based on the acceptance letter from the institution

• The applicant should demonstrate good academic, leadership and empathetic ability, with high values and developmental communication skills

Bheki Mlangeni Memorial Scholarship (Final Year Students only)

Cheadle Thompson & Haysom Inc. endows an annual scholarship of R25 000 in memory of Bheki Mlangeni. Applications annually open towards the end of January.

The Scholarship is awarded to a deserving final-year LLB student at the University of the Western Cape who:

- is Black;

- is financially disadvantaged;

- has demonstrated excellence in constitutional law, labour law or administrative law; and

- demonstrates a commitment to use his or her legal qualification to advance the cause of social justice.

Once applications open, then students are timeously notified.


Canon Collins Trust LLB Scholarships

Canon Collins Trust annually invites applications from current 2nd or 3rd year students (going into their 3rd or 4th year in 2018) studying for an LLB at the University of the Western Cape. Funding is provided for up to two years. Continued funding depends upon satisfactory progress and academic reports.

Applicants must be:

- a national of South Africa;

- in possession of a good results for completed years of study, or be able to demonstrate  improvement;

- a current undergraduate student of Law at the University of the Western Cape.

Applications annually open at the end of September.

Once applications open, students are timeously notified.

 

Attorneys Fidelity Fund

The minimum requirement for qualification for such a bursary is a BA (Law), B Comm (Law), B Iuris or B Proc degree or a similar qualification or proof of successful completion of the first two years of the revised 4-year LLB curriculum.

If you are currently in your 1st semester of your second year, we can assist with a bursary for your 3rd and 4th year of study.

OR

If you are currently in your 1st semester of your third year, we can assist with a bursary for your final year of study.

Preference will be given to applicants in serious financial need, although outstanding academic merit will be taken into consideration.

A bursary shall only be applied towards the tuition fees of a recipient.

The Fund’s Board of Control will in each case determine the amount of the bursary.

A bursary can be awarded for a maximum period of two years at a South African University.
