APPLICATION FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

LLM (COURSEWORK) / MPhil (COURSEWORK) / NON DEGREE / EXCHANGE)

The Faculty of Law welcomes your interest in its Postgraduate Programme. The information contained on this page is critical for your application and will guide you through the process.

Application Process

1. Complete an online application form at our www.uwc.ac.za website (follow the online application link).

 UWC students currently registered do not need to complete an online application.

2. Also complete this Internal Data Form and select your modes/modules on the Internal Data Form and return it to Mr. R. Meyer by post or by e-mail.

3. Supply all required documentation (original certified copies of full academic transcript(s) and all degree certificates. Any documentation not in English must be translated and sworn to by an authorized translator.  UWC students do not need to hand in any results).

4. All international students’ application must be accompanied with a South African Qualifications Authority certificate (SAQA) (No applications can be accepted without this document) www.saqa.org.za

5. A short ccurriculum vitae must accompany your application form.

6. Any foreign candidates whose education was in a language other than English will be required to submit evidence of their English proficiency: Minimum acceptable scores:

• IELTS 6.5 (with 6.0 in each section)

• TOEFL 600 (with 55 in each section and 4.0 in TWE)

• TOEFL-IBT 100(with at least 20 in each section)

• AND/OR an additional language proficiency test can be administered by the faculty as an option.

Admission

The admission criteria that candidates are required to meet for the master’s programme are as follows:

a) Candidates must be in possession of a Bachelor of Law degree obtained from a South African University or have obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Law or have obtained another qualification which in the opinion of the Senate is of an equivalent standard.

b) Candidates will be required to submit evidence of their ability in the proposed field of study if the Faculty requires it.

c) An average of 60 % must be obtained during the last two years of studies.

International Students

International students must submit their study permits to the Admissions Office when registering, and will not be able to register with a visitor’s or holiday permit.  Students are required to take out adequate health care insurance for the time they are in South Africa.  For more information contact the Student Administration Department, Ms. C.
