SARChI Chair wins top award

Professor Marla Trindade, SARChI Research Chair in Microbial Genomics and Director of the Institute of Microbial Biotechnology and Metagenomics received the 2015 Distinguished Young Woman Scientist (Life Sciences) Award at the  South African Woman in Science Awards dinner held in Johannesburg on 13th August.  The awards are organised and presented by the Department of Science and Technology in recognition of the achievements of woman scientists and their profile as role models for woman in science. The theme for the 2015 awards was “Science for a Sustainable Future” with special reference to the United Nation’s Millennium Development  Goals. This is the second year in a row that a UWC scientist has been nominated as a DST Distinguished Woman Scientist in her field of research endeavour.
