Mariam Parker joined the School of Pharmacy in 2009. Having just completed a pharmacy internship and community service in a tertiary hospital environment, her interests and expertise include professional practice and experiential and pedagogical teaching and learning approaches. Her current research involves collaborative projects with SANPAD (South Africa Netherlands research Programme on Alternatives in Development) and UWC Computer Science Department in establishing mobile pharmaceutical communication aids for Deaf individuals. With a keen interest in community health issues in the Western Cape, Mariam also works with the school’s Service-learning in Pharmacy (SLIP) office to collaborate with Primary health care community partners in cultivating learning opportunities for pharmacy students in underserved communities in the Cape Town metropole.
