Chancellor's celebrates children

Christmas came early for scores of Cape Town children when UWC Chancellor, Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, hosted his annual Christmas party on 1 December at his Bishopscourt residence.

Children young and old, and from all walks of life, had a field day when they were entertained by a magician, were showered with gifts and offered sumptuous meals, and enjoyed fun games in the residence’s spacious garden.

It was the fourth year that Makgoba hosted the event, saying that it was an important day for the children to take over his residence and just be children.

Makgoba noted that the annual party happens during the Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign, and on World Aids Day.

“I pray that no child will be raped, that no child will be abused, and that no child will be demeaned,” said Makgoba. He went on to tell the excited children, “I want you to recommit to an HIV/AIDS-free South Africa, so that there will hopefully be no more infections in our lifetime.”

Archbishop Makgoba thanked his family, volunteers and donors for making the day such a huge success.
