On Heritage Day 2020, the Rector and Vice-Chancellor Professor Tyrone Pretorius sat down with Expresso Morning Show hosts to chat about the University of the Western Cape (UWC) celebrating its 60th anniversary

Prof Pretorius talked about the role UWC has played in the history of South Africa, its involvement in community engagement, and its transition from a “Bush college” into an activist-driven institution that ranks among the top 800 universities in the world

“The story of the University of the Western Cape is intrinsically linked to the history of South Africa,” he said. “The University in its first 40 years of existence built a foundation that aided the transition of South Africa into a democractic country, and its reintroduction into the global community. And I’m proud to say that our transition has extended to a force for change in finding solutions for the global challenges of our time.”
