UWC’s Choir Conductor, Sibusiso Njeza, has been nominated for Influential Man of the Year at the Eastern Cape’s 2018 BACK TO MY ROOTS Awards...and he needs (and deserves) YOUR vote!

Sibusiso is an internationally-respected and award-winning music composer who originally comes from the Eastern Cape, but has made UWC his home.

As UWC Choirmaster, Sibusiso has led the UWC Choir to triumphs at such challenges as the Old Mutual National Choir Festival (OMNCF) and the Varsity Sing Choral Competition, earning Best Conductor and Best Composer awards along the way. And his leadership even helped them become prestigious World Choir Games 2018 International Gold Winners.

So what makes Sibusiso such a great maestro?

“Sibusiso's commitment to student talent development is amazing,” says ResLife Coordinator Njabulo Maphumulo. “He goes above and beyond to assist students who would like to sing in the UWC Choir. He has a personal relationship as the maestro with each and every chorister - and that helps bring out the best in their performances. Through Sibusiso’s diligence and passion, UWC Choir has grown from strength to strength - and is now amongst those internationally acclaimed choirs.”

And as Coordinator for Cultural Life & Community Engagement at the UWC Residential Services Department, Sibusiso has been intimately involved in establishing and guiding UWC’s biggest talent show, UDubs Got Talent, and the celebrated Christmas Carols.

“He is dedicated and committed to a holistic student experience at UWC through creating platforms whereby students can learn, live and develop,” Njabulo explains. “He's more concerned about holistic student development as part of supporting academic journeys - and that means celebrating and developing all aspects of a life.”

Sibusiso is also the composer of Madiba: The African Opera, which first took to the international stage in 2014, and has provided audiences with a powerful glimpse into the life of Nelson Mandela.

“Sibusiso has proven that against all odds, one can do a lot with the little that you have,” Njabulo notes. “We at Residential Services are proud to be associated with him.”

In short, Sibusiso Njeza is definitely a worthy contender for the title of Most Influential Man.
