Last week, a digital platform - showcasing social innovations through digital storytelling - was launched globally at an international symposium held in Cape Town. The symposium was hosted by the University of the Western Cape (UWC) at Welgemeend, and opened by the Rector, Prof. Tyrone Pretorius. It was attended by 80 international participants from academia, business, government and social innovation enterprises.

UWC is one of a consortium of twelve institutions that participated in this three-year-long Erasmus+ European Union funded project. The consortium comprised universities from Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Scotland and Spain, and in South Africa: UWC, the University of Johannesburg, the University of the Free State, North West University, Nelson Mandela University and Rhodes University, as well as the organisation Social Innovation Exchange.

The aim of the project was to build a digital platform to share diverse stories of social innovators through video, audio and images, and also to create a virtual community of global solution-finders for the common good. The digital platform http://www.commongoodfirst.com can be used by Social Innovators and Social Innovation Enterprises to create and publish their own stories. Digital stories will help to further showcase their impact on the needs of communities and help to connect Social Innovators with each other, and with communities and Universities.
