 DRAMS

The Department of Documents, Records and Archives Management Services (DRAMS) was established to ensure the establishment of a formal, efficient, legally compliant, legally defensible records and archives management programme at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). DRAMS exist to fulfil the University’s commitments to develop effective structures and conventions of governance, which are democratic, transparent and accountable.


Our goal is a UWC documents, records and archives management environment which enables:​

  • ​​​UWC to govern its information resources as true assest of the University just like its financial and its human capital resources.
  • UWC staff to focus on the information they need to do their business and not on the management of documents, records and archives themselves.

Mission

  • to make the right information contained in documents, records and archives, in whatever format, available to the right person at the right time;
  • to support the University's committment to excellence in teaching, learning and research by collecting accurate, authentic and complete UWC historical records;
  • to preserve and provide access to records, and to promote the highest standards of management for UWC's current and semi-current records.​​​

  • advise departments on best practices for managing records;
  • manage records that have been transferred to the Central Records Office; 
  • build, maintain and provide acces to UWC archival collection; 
  • preserve records for historical research; 
  • develop and maintain effective systems for managin UWC's documents, records and archives in accordance with best practice and standards;
  • provide guidance on how UWC departments can create official records; 
  • advise UWC departments on how to organize and maintain official records in their custody according to approved file plans; and develop a retention schedule
