 Campus Protection Services

The University of Western Cape Campus Protection Services (CPS) creates a safe and secure environment on campus by enforcing laws and actively preventing crime. CPS has the same responsibilities as the SA Police services, and has challenges that are unique to a large, internationally recognized university community. The department’s mission is to protect the university through professional policing and through leadership of community partnerships, while fostering the educational mission of the University.

The Campus Protection Services which is our largest division is primarily responsible for the safety and security of the entire campus community. CPS is a community-orientated and trust-based campus safety and security department responsible for providing a safe secure living, learning environment at UWC.  Cps team are on duty 365 days a year and provide an immediate response top all types of calls for service to emergent situations and critical incidents. This division consists of one Deputy, four Zones, six supervisors, five traffic  wardens, one liaison officer, three investigators, one administrator and 2 patrol officers. These members are responsible for crime deterrence, crime investigation, dignitary protection, traffic, investigations, emergency response and handling routine calls for service. Our security officers patrol the University of the Western Cape campus by foot, golf car, quads and vehicle 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

CPS Security Plan consists of four (4) main components: 

PROTECT – people and university assets

SECURE – buildings and areas

CAPTURE – actions and incidents

ACT – mass notification, student identification
