Welcome to Mentoring and Support

 Mentoring and Support

Since 2001 over 600 students have studied at UWC through the RPL route and some have already graduated with certificates, diplomas and degrees. We always host a special welcome to all first-year RPL students and we have a small, but active, mentoring and support forum for those who need it (see below).

Take a look at the profiles of some of our students below. Some have been nominated for the Lifelong Learning Awards which the University makes every year at one of the annual graduation ceremonies.

In 2007 celebrated another big achievement when Ismail Mohammed became the first LLB (Law) student to graduate through the RPL system. Read his profile below.

Mentoring and Support Forum

‘A mentor is an experienced person who helps and guides the development of a less experienced person. This guidance is not done for personal gain.’

In 2006 we set up the Mentoring and Support Forum especially for RPL students. The aims of the forum are to:

•    Help you meet RPL students who are following your study program

•    Help you network with experienced students who know how the university system works

•    Provide advice and assistance on how to access bursaries, finance and other learning systems

•    Provide advice and support on how to access administration and information systems at university – including    the Library and Writing Centre

•    Discuss academic and social challenges related to study at university

•    Provide access to new research and information on RPL, part-time studies and lifelong learning opportunities at UWC

•    Establish and RPL List Serve for easy email correspondence and ongoing communication

•    Provide a comfortable and safe space to build networks and to air concerns.

The forum meets at least twice a year. If you are interested in becoming part of the group, please contact:
