Course Purpose:

To enable the participant to write a well-structured, soundly presented and critical literature review for the purpose of conducting a research study within a relevant context

Course Content:

·       What is a literature review

·       Sections/components to be covered in a literature review

·       Rhetorical ‘moves’ for literature reviews

·       Developing a theoretical framework

Course Outcomes & Benefits:

·       Explain the purpose and importance of a literature review

·       Use higher order thinking skills in the conceptualizing and writing of a literature review

·       Develop a theoretical framework while creating a literature review

Teaching & Learning Strategies:

The strategy for this course will be Facilitation, i.e. transfer of information in a participatory manner. The course is based on the concept of postgraduate studies ‘competency’; defined as: a) the knowledge (what we know about the subject or area of expertise); b) the practical skills (what we can do in this subject or area of expertise); and c) our attitudes and behaviours (what we value and what we are seen to carry out in our attitudes and behaviours).

Course materials: The materials includes the Facilitator’s Workshop Powerpoints related to the workshop topic as well as Templates, Additional Readings and Electronic Links to further assist participants with their research after having attended the course.

Duration: 9am – 2pm

Max Places: 30 participants
