CENTALS hosts John Hopkins Collaborating Scholars

The Centre for Teaching and Learning Scholarship (CENTALS) in the School of Nursing, played host to Prof Phyllis W. Sharps and Prof Fannie Gaston-Johansson from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. Distinguished Prof Fannie Gaston-Johansson is an Elsie M. Lawler Chair & Director of the Minority Health International Research Training Program (MHIRT) located in the Nursing programme at John Hopkins.  This is part of the four- year long collaboration between the UWC School of Nursing and the School of Nursing, Johns Hopkins University (JHU), Baltimore in the USA which focuses on research, student and staff exchange, academic skills and capacity development. 

The annual activities in the collaboration include the Minority Global Health Disparities International Research Training (MHIRT) Program, where minority students from the USA visit and spend time with researchers to learn more about research and cultures at different settings outside of the USA.  Six students from various Universities in the USA visited UWC for a period of 5 weeks on the MHIRT program, under the coordination of Prof O Adejumo, Head of CENTALS as the international partner, while working with other colleagues in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences (Prof Rene Phetlhu in Nursing and Dr Xuesheng Ma from School of Natural Medicine).
