Prof Dominic Mazvimavi, the Director of the Institute for Water Studies has been nominated and invited to deliver a Union Lecture at the 26th General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) (http://www.IUGG.org). The General Assembly will be held in Prague, Czech Republic, 22 June to 2 July 2015 (http://www.iugg.org/assemblies/2015prague).

According to the IUGG, “Union Lectures at IUGG General Assemblies are considered to be plenary lectures and delivered by the most distinguished scientists including Nobel Prize winners". Prof Mazvimavi serves as a co-leader for the International Association for Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) research theme on "Prediction and Estimation" which is part of the IAHS Scientific Decade (2013-2022) focusing on "Panta Rhei - Change in Hydrology and Society". The Union Lecture by Prof Mazvimavi will therefore focus on priority scientific issues that need to be addressed in order to understand and predict how the availability of water resources is influenced by linkages and feedback between changes in hydrology and society, particularly in Africa.
