 The Multilevel Government Initiative (MLGI) in the Community Law Centre contributes to Municipal Audit


On December 11, 2014, the Financial Mail published an article on the Municipal Audit Consistency Barometer, (Mac-B), developed by Dr Derek Powell and a team of researchers from the MLGI at UWC's Community Law Centre.  

The Mac-B measures consistency in the audit performance of municipalities over a five year period, corresponding to the term of local government. The patterns in the data are then used to analyse the correlation between municipal performance and the impact that the law and institutions of other levels of government have on local government. The Mac-B research is one instrument in a pioneering research project undertaken by the MLGI that uses large data sets to measure the impact of the law and the complex systems of a multilevel government on society.
