Dear Campus Community
I want to start this update by reaffirming the strong sentiment that was expressed at a Staff Meeting on Thursday, 29 October 2015, that it is very important for us to reopen the campus tomorrow (Monday, 2 November 2015).
We have no illusions about the fact that tomorrow is not going to be an easy day, but we cannot further postpone the opening of the campus. Despite the impressions being created, I wish to assure you that we have been tirelessly working every day since Monday, to finding a resolution to the current difficult situation and eventually addressing you as a campus community - all our staff and all our students.
Please note that there will be security and police presence on campus. This is in the interest of the safety of students and staff. Furthermore, access to campus tomorrow will be for UWC students and staff only. Vehicle access will only be via the Robert Sobukwe Road entrance and the access cards of everybody in vehicles will be checked. We expect that entering the campus tomorrow will take longer than usual and we ask you to please be patient. Pedestrian access will be via the pedestrian gates on Robert Sobukwe Road and at the Station.
For now, as part of my continued commitment to open communication and conversation, I invite all staff to a Staff Meeting tomorrow at 13:00 in the Main Hall. I would like to use this opportunity to personally update you and collectively discuss the way forward.
