UWC opens its doors to potential students
What is the University of the Western Cape all about? What can you learn here, and what careers can it lead to? And how do you make a success of your studies? Prospective students - and their parents - were given the chance to find out at the annual UWC Open Day on 6 May 2017.
The Open Day programme provided information about undergraduate courses, extracurricular activities and the exceptional opportunities the University has on offer for those who aspire to pursue tertiary education at UWC in 2018.
Grade 11 and 12 learners and their parents had an opportunity to visit exhibitions presented by the University across all seven faculties and their respective departments. Information sessions allowed visitors access to key information relating to admission requirements, as well as online applications, bursaries and loans, selection processes and residence enquiries.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences held a public lecture where Professor Mike Davies-Coleman, the Dean of Natural Sciences, provided an overview of the different departments within the Faculty of Natural Sciences, outlining some of their many accomplishments - and explained why studying Natural Sciences at UWC was a great idea for curious minds.
The Faculty of Economic Management Sciences provided learners with entertainment as well as information, with a mini-circus demonstrating how campus life doesn’t always have to be too serious.
There was more entertainment on offer for prospective students: they had the opportunity to visit stalls laden with gifts and goody bags by the seven faculties in the Main Hall, and a full tour of the campus and its facilities concluded the day’s activities.
