New faces for UWC against UKZN
FNB UWC coach Peter De Villiers has ringed some changes as his side seek to put their Varsity Shield campaign back on track when they host the FNB UKZN Impi at the UWC Sports Stadium on Monday, 17 February 2014. Kick-off is at 7pm.
The Bushie Boys suffered two consecutive losses at the hands of reigning champions FNB CUT IXIAS (8-3) last Monday, and at home to FNB TUT Vikings (31-34) a week earlier. The defeats toppled the Bellville-based outfit from the summit of the log standings to third position, and pose a serious challenge to the UWC side’s ambition of winning the competition and getting promoted to the Varsity Cup.
But De Villiers’ men can bounce back into contention if they beat the KwaZulu-Natal side, which is coached by former New Zealand coach, John Mitchell, and which ranks at the bottom of the Varsity Shield after losing both their opening matches.
In the FNB UWC team for Monday’s game, Minenhle Mthethwa will replace James Verity-Amm in the left wing position, and William Scott will move from right lock to replace Jose Julies in the right flanker position, with his previous position filled by Sebenza Maphumulo.
Also, Matthew Faught will come on for Njabulo Ndlovu as left flanker, while Kelvin de Bruyn moves from loose head prop to replace Siphiwokuhle Bakeni in the tight head prop position. Brandon Beukman will take the loose head prop role.
In another tactical move, Captain Frederick Muller leaves the scrum half position for Matthew Nortje and moves to fly half, to shift Dale van Schalkwyk who switched to the fullback position. Warrick Rhoda, who previously held the fullback position, replaces Yondela Stampu in left centre.
