The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) invites applications for a bursary under the DSI-CSIR Inter-programme Bursary Scheme (IBS).

The IBS postgraduate bursary is intended for fulltime studies at any South African public university under specific themes.

Eligibility

Students who are approved or registered for fulltime studies at any South African public university, who intend study for the following degrees:

• Honours/fourth year engineering/postgraduate Diploma
• Masters’
• Doctorate

ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES DOCUMENT

Focus areas

CSIR-DSI IBS applications are restricted to students whose degrees are aligned with the thematic research areas indicated below:

• Bio-catalysis
• Biopharming
• Bioprocessing
• Health
• ICT
• Indigenous Knowledge Systems
• Microsystems technology
• Mining
• Modelling and digital sciences
• Titanium (manufacturing elements)
• Photonics

Value of the bursary award per annum

• Honours/fourth year engineering/postgraduate Diploma: R100 000
• Masters: R120 000
• Doctorate: R140 000
• Students will receive an additional once off laptop allowance of R10 000
