Study in Sweden and Scholarship information - Programmes start in August 2020

(Published - 7 January 2020)

Dear SASUF members and university friends of the Embassy of Sweden in Pretoria,

Happy New Year! University admissions for programmes starting in August 2020 for Swedish universities are about to close (the 15th of January) and therefore we kindly ask you again to spread the word about the Swedish Institute Scholarship for South Africa!

Help us spread the message about the fully-funded Swedish Institute Scholarship for South Africa (SISSA) for students to pursue a Master’s degree in Sweden. The scholarship is aimed at developing global leaders who will contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Ideal candidates are ambitious young professionals with academic qualifications, demonstrated leadership experience and an ambition to make a difference!

Priority will be given to applicants who:

  • choose study programmes with an emphasis on one of the following subject areas: computer science and IT, design (industrial design, architecture, urban/regional planning), engineering, environmental technology/sustainable development, gender studies, nanotechnology, or public health,
  • have completed bachelor’s with honours or equivalent from a South African university, and
  • have demonstrated work and leadership experience.

However, applicants from other fields of studies are also welcome! SISSA aims at diversity and gender equality among scholarship holders.

Important deadlines are 15 January for University admissions and 20 February 2020 for the scholarship application.

With this email, we would like to invite you to share with your students and/or relevant networks the information on studies in Sweden and scholarship opportunities. In 2020, about 10 scholarships will be granted to South African students which cover living costs, tuition fees, a travel grant and insurance for Master studies in Sweden.

We want to reach as many students as possible from all over South Africa, so we encourage you to spread the information in your suitable channels (by mouth, email, social media etc.). Please follow the Embassy of Sweden on social media, @SwedeninSA on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more information and updates.

For example, you can share and retweet our posts, tag us and other people that might be interested etc. We are very grateful for your assistance in spreading the message to South African students about these generous scholarships and would welcome any suggestions of how we could reach as many interested students as possible.
