MODERATOR

Advocate Motlalepule Rantho holds a B. Proc and LL.B degrees from the University of the Western Cape. She also holds diplomas in Practical Project Management (UNISA) and Criminal Justice and Forensic Auditing (UJ) among her other achievements. Following her completion of studies at UWC, she proceeded to qualify as an attorney and spent 17 years in the Public Service as a Labour Relations Practitioner and Legal Adviser until her return to legal practice to join the Pretoria Bar in 2015 and Johannesburg 2020. She has been actively engaged in various legal and community service roles, including serving on the Bar Council of the Pretoria Bar, as a Board Member of Safer South Africa Foundation and a panellist for the Arbitration Tribunal of Boxing South Africa. Her legal practice areas include constitutional, administrative, labour, immigration, refugees, water, contract, insolvency, mining, environmental, sports and delictual law, as well as alternative dispute resolution.
SPEAKERS

Angela van der Berg is the Director of the Global Environmental Law Centre at the University of the Western Cape and an Associate Professor in Public Law and Jurisprudence. She coordinates and teaches the LLM Programme in Environmental Law and has previously served as an Assistant Professor at Leiden University College. Angela holds a joint PhD in Law and Development from Tilburg University and North-West University. Her research and publications focus on International and Domestic Environmental Law, Climate Change Law, and Public Governance. She also consults for UN-Habitat, represents the Western Cape for the Environmental Law Association, and has advised the African Union on climate change and children's rights policy.

Maluta Netshaulu has over 12 years of experience in banking and finance, focusing on agriculture portfolios from smallholder to large commercial farmers. His expertise includes research, relationship management, credit evaluation, risk, business development, and strategy. Passionate about sustainability and climate resilience, he aims to improve operational efficiencies, grow businesses, and uplift communities. Recently, he joined the Nedbank CSI team to manage the Green Economy portfolio, partnering with intermediaries to advance beneficiaries in Agriculture, Energy, Water, and Waste. He holds a B. Com in Economics & Statistics from UCT, a B. Com Honours in Agricultural Economics from Stellenbosch University, and is a columnist for Food For Mzansi.

Ninky Shuenyane, founder and Managing Director of Village Water Filters SA (Pty) Ltd, holds an M.A. in Psychology and is a qualified Research Psychologist from the University of the Western Cape. Specialising in human behaviour research, she has conducted extensive social and marketing research across Africa, working with organisations like The Coca-Cola Company and Statistics South Africa. Ms Shuenyane understands African households' socio-economic and environmental challenges and seeks solutions to improve living standards using natural resources. Outside work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, running marathons, gardening, and encouraging young people.
