Goal 4 of the IOP focuses on the People Framework. According to this goal, UWC will increasingly position itself “as a higher education employer of choice through a supportive work environment and an institutional culture that embraces diversity, inclusivity and excellence and that is resilient amidst contextual challenges in support of the institutional vision and strategic goals”.
To attain this goal, HR follows a transformational approach to human resources management and innovation by focusing on four core areas – diversity and inclusion, engagement, retention and competencies. HR therefore offers a full spectrum of HR services to academic and professional, administrative and support service staff in order to attract new staff, and retain and develop those who already work at the institution.
Other than the staff development opportunities offered by the department, it also focuses on staff wellness by offering 24/7 counselling through external service providers to ensure confidentiality and through monthly wellness blog posts on its website as well as webinars about various wellness topics such as mental health, stress and burnout.
