The University of the Western Cape (UWC) understands that many students face financial challenges while pursuing their studies. Through the UWC Financial Aid Assistance, the university offers limited financial support to students who demonstrate financial disadvantage and meet the eligibility requirements.

It is important to note that as per T&C’s, the Financial Aid assistance is not a guaranteed bursary, as funding depends on the availability of resources. Students need to apply on an annual basis. Students are therefore strongly encouraged to apply for additional funding opportunities, such as external bursaries, scholarships, or sponsorships, to help cover their study and living expenses. Applications open annually from February and closes in March, outcome is given towards the end of the year around November.

Application criteria:
  • Applications are only open for South African citizens
  • Open to registered students for that specific year
  • Applicable to students registered for Undergraduate & Postgraduate recognized programme
  • Good academic record
  • Financially disadvantaged or needing financial assistance
