ABOUT
UWC Career Services empowers students and recent graduates to develop meaningful career pathways and confidently transition into the world of work. We enhance students’ induction and orientation experiences to support their adjustment and integration into university life. In addition, we provide robust engagement opportunities that build awareness and strengthen the skills and competencies needed for career advancement and success in the future world of work.We aim to:
- Empower students to enrich their university experience and ambitions into meaningful career outcomes.
- Support their journey from first year to post-graduation through continuous career development, networking and job search preparation.
- Connect employers and students by providing a multi-service, one-stop platform for engagement, collaboration and recruitment.
SERVICES:
The Student Orientation Programme (SOP) aims to help new students (first-years, transfers, postgraduate students) successfully transition into university life. We facilitate this process by guiding students to adjust to the campus environment, build social and academic networks and access the resources they need for a strong start to their studies.
Orientation services offered:
- Facilitation of the induction, transition and adjustment of new undergraduate students to the campus environment and university life.
- Dedicated orientation services for postgraduate students, tailored to their unique academic and social integration needs.
- Support for forming peer networks and social connections.
- Guidance on understanding the academic demands of first-year studies, helping to establish a foundation for student success and retention.
- Introduction to supportive campus resources and services, ensuring students know where and how to access help.
- Catch-Up Orientation opportunities for late registrants or students who miss initial sessions, ensuring no student is left behind.
- Access to the iKamva Student Orientation Site, which houses all resources students need for orientation, transition and induction into university life.
- Peer-to-peer guidance through trained Orientation Guides, offering relatable support, encouragement and first-hand student perspectives.

UWC Career Xplora is our online career portal, providing students and recent alumni with 24/7 access to career resources and job opportunities.
Through Career Xplora, you can:
- Create a profile and make changes to academic profile to receive industry-specific career notifications and weekly job blasts.
- Create or improve your CV and Letter of Motivation using the toolkit or submit them for review and feedback from Career Services consultants.
- Access the Employer Directory with leading graduate recruiters in South Africa.
- Stay updated on workshops, events and new resources in the Multimedia Library.
- Explore our Opportunities Board tailored for student and graduate needs.
- Practise and improve your interview skills using the Mock Interview tool to record and review your performance, and receive potential feedback from recruiters.
- Book a consultation, in-person or virtually, to give feedback and advise on job search documents and strategies.
- Link Google Calendar for reminders about on-campus Career Services events.

All UWC students interested in improving their employability and job search confidence are welcome to join. Workshops are held during lunchtimes throughout the academic year. Workshops cover themes such as CV and Letter of Motivation writing, LinkedIn optimisation, interview preparation, job search strategies, and understanding job search realities.

- Design and printing of relevant resources, including the creation of job search multimedia resources in IsiXhosa and Afrikaans.
- Contribute to the refurbishment of the UWC Career Services office space and marketing areas.

It offers opportunities to apply classroom knowledge, understand organisational culture, build networks and transition confidently into the world of work.
Career Services plays a key role in supporting the GCDP by providing administrative and logistical leadership. The Manager of Career Services leads the GCDP Core Team to:
Recruit and select suitable candidates.
- Plan and facilitate the induction and orientation of interns.
- Offering structured supervision that enables interns to apply their classroom knowledge and skills within the Student Development and Support (SDS) divisions.
- Arrange and promote participation in targeted training and development opportunities.
- Collaborate with SDS Managers to monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of the programme.
Through this partnership, Career Services ensures that the GCDP is not only well-managed but also aligned with UWC’s broader goal of preparing graduates for success beyond the classroom.
