The 2022 Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (CUCSA) Games concluded on 2 September in Lilongwe, Malawi with Team South Africa defending their overall title from 2018.
South Africa's top university sports stars across athletics, netball and chess claimed 25 medals in total, comprising 11 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze. In the process they just edged Botswana (23 in total) and Zimbabwe (21) - despite not competing in basketball, football, tennis or volleyball.
One of Team SA's bronzes was claimed by Geraldine Timoteus (née King), UWC's only representative at this year's games. Timoteus finished third in the 200m behind two Botswana athletes.
Earlier in the season, during the USSA National Championships held at UWC, the 25-year-old had won gold in the high jump and bronze in the 200m. Geraldine Timoteus (King) flying the national flag after the CUCSA Games medal ceremony at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. Pic credit: USSA Media
