Msenge’s signing with the New Nation Pumas provincial side was recently confirmed by his representatives, F7 Sports Management, in a social media statement. With this signing, the 22-year-old speedster follows Tinotenda Mavesere (Sharks), Branden de Kock (Cheetahs) and André Manuel in stepping up from FNB Varsity Cup level to the pro ranks.
Born in Swellendam, Msenge completed his schooling in Worcester Gimnasium in 2017 where he earned an award for his all-round sporting exploits. Apart from rugby, he excelled in both athletics and cricket – ostensibly his first love.
Two years of club rugby and appearances for the Boland Under-20 side later and Msenge arrived at UWC where it’s become clear why he is known as ‘The Swellendam Express’. He scored three tries in the curtailed 2020 FNB Varsity Cup season – including two long-rangers against UCT which caught the attention of the local rugby fraternity. Earlier this year, he confirmed his destiny for higher honours by dotting down five times as UWC secured a solid sixth place.
Msenge, who obtained his Higher Certificate in Economic Development during the May graduations, will move to Mpumalanga in November to begin the next chapter of his rugby journey.
