The 2023 edition of Varsity Netball gets underway this coming weekend at Wits University and UWC's squad for the two-week tournament has been confirmed.
The 16-player squad retains 10 players from the 2022 squad who finished in seventh place, including captain Adri Kannemeyer and fellow Telkom Netball League players, Courtleigh Behr, Shevonne Hoffman, Renisha Daniels and Liandré Schoeman.
Leandré Ketch makes a return to Varsity Netball action after missing out last year, while Amber Coraizin last played in the tournament back in 2019.
That leaves Shani Pick, Kristin van der Ross and Liyema Mrali as 'first years' and Roné Carstens has made the move down from North-West University.
UWC head coach Vanessa Lingeveldt - also in her first year - says her team have one objective for the Varsity Netball tournament – to play good quality netball with enjoyment.
“Preparations have been going well. We ensure that players trained with intensity throughout training sessions and also recover well. We have exciting young players that will bring a balance and a different aspect to the game.”
Lingeveldt says she is super excited of the journey ahead and is looking forward to the Varsity Netball tournament.
“After the World Cup, [Varsity Netball] will certainly give recognition to players’ performance.”
