The Centre for the Performing Arts invites all instrumentalists and vocalists to audition for any of the ensembles below.
UWC Jazz Combo is the most sought after ensemble for various university events on and off campus. To audition, please submit two short video clips to demonstrate your performance abilities and competencies. Rehearsals take place at the Centre for the Performing Arts once a week and include repertoire study, jazz improvisation and jazz theory. The repertoire places emphasis on South African jazz as its primary objective, but includes recognised jazz standards as well. A vast repertoire is crucial due to the regular performance opportunities throughout the year.
The closing date for submitting the audition clips is 22 February 2022 with rehearsals commencing in March 2023. Please email the video clips to cpa@uwc.ac.za.
UWC Community Chamber Choir has performed at all the virtual concerts over the past three years including choir members performing solo items and smaller ensembles at these concerts. This is an invitation for UWC students who have experience of singing in their church or community choirs to participate in this vibrant ensemble. Rehearsals take place at the Centre for the Performing Arts from 18:00-20:00 on Mondays and Thursdays to also accommodate members from the community choirs to participate after working hours. Auditions will take place via an appointment.
UWC Women’s Choir is a new initiative. We are inviting all female staff members to an hour of pure enjoyment singing well known choral works. Rehearsals will take place during lunch time on a Wednesday at the Centre for the Performing Arts. Auditions will take place by appointment to accommodate work responsibilities.
