The University of the Western Cape’s (UWC’s) latest edition of Blue and Gold sports magazine has just been released.
This blockbuster edition focuses on our multi-million rand infrastructural development, undertaken in the past few years to help UWC sportspeople stand shoulder to shoulder when competing on national, continental and international stages.
The biggest of these developments is the High Performance Centre (HPC) offering athletes support through sport-specific training, strength and conditioning, nutrition, physiotherapy, biokinetics and sport psychology services.
In this issue, we highlight the facelift given to our unique indoor heated Olympic-size swimming pool - one of only a few in Africa. Here UWC hosts top-class training sessions and events, and the facility is also available for hire to the public.
Director of Sport at UWC, Mandla Gagayi, pays tribute to UWC sports administrator Adrienne Galagatsi who passed away earlier this year, while Olympian Ryan Julius’s story is another testimony to the university’s tradition of producing sports stars who shine brightly around the globe.
