The Faculty of Education is seeking to appoint a part-time lecturer in the Department of Educational Studies to teach three modules in semester two of the 2021 academic year.

The modules are:
  • BED711 Curriculum and Pedagogy, to B.Ed. Honours students
  • EDC323 Curriculum and Pedagogy, to third-year students (Senior and FET Phase teaching)
  • FES211 Educational Studies, to second-year students (Foundation Phase teaching)
The modules are part of the Faculty’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. 

The Department of Educational Studies teaches courses in the socio-economic, political and historical foundations of education practice. Our courses draw on rich theoretical understandings of education, mindful of their implications for teaching practice in the South African context of a deeply divided society in transition. The courses we teach reflect the diverse interdisciplinary backgrounds of our teaching staff and our commitment, as a Department, to the post-apartheid transformation project.

Minimum requirements:
  • a Master’s degree in Curriculum Studies, Educational Studies or a related field
  • Experience in online and face-to-face teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Evidence of working with ICT platforms in delivering the curriculum, including teaching, assessments and communicating with students
The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Deliver the curriculum via online lectures using the university’s ICT platform
  • Prepare teaching & learning materials that are appropriate for online use by students (e.g. narrated PowerPoint presentations of lectures, detailed course notes with attached Course Reader, etc.)
  • Conduct face-to-face lectures when the need arises
  • Prepare and conduct assessments (online and when necessary, face-to-face) in line with the course requirements
  • Upload teaching and learning materials and assessments on the university ICT platform
  • Grade assessments timeously in line with the Faculty assessment protocols
  • Respond to student queries and consult with the module coordinator 
  • Be flexible and available to respond to student queries especially via email and online consultations
