
Call for Applications Postdoctoral Fellowship 2023-24:

Centre for Transformative Regulation of Work
The Faculty of Law, University of the Western Cape, seeks to recruit one full-time Postdoctoral Fellow beginning from May 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter, for one year. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be located in the Centre for Transformative Regulation of Work (CENTROW) in the Faculty of Law. CENTROW was established in 2020 as a research centre that contributes to shaping labour market policy and legislation on the future of work in South Africa and the SADC region. The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to research and teaching activities within the Centre and will assist with organising research workshops, seminars and other events. The Faculty of Law encourages the participation of full time post-doctoral fellows in teaching and supervision as a way to build their academic profiles. Any teaching and supervision workload will be in accordance with relevant policies, including funder guidelines.
Eligible applicants are required to have:
- Completed a doctorate within the relevant field in the last five years and may not have held a prior permanent academic post. For applicants who did not obtain their qualification in South Africa, a valid SAQA certificate should be in hand at the time of application.
- A strong academic record.
Recommended criteria:
An application will be strengthened by -- evidence of peer-reviewed publications
- evidence of writing grant applications and project management, including ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders
Advantageous skills:
- ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- ability to work under pressure and to adapt to dynamic work circumstances/ environments
- ability to develop manuscripts for publication in high impact journals
- experience in organising and facilitating online and face-to-face workshops and forums
Application Procedure:
Eligible candidates should provide the following:- A motivation letter (maximum two pages).
- A one-page summary outlining their research interest and how it fits one of the Law Faculty’s research centres.
- A full CV including all publications, conference attendance, and other scholarly research output.
- A copy of ID or passport.
- Evidence of publication record and writing skills (which can be copies of, or a link to, relevant peer-reviewed publications).
- Academic transcript of highest degree.
- Names and contact details of at least three referees who have supervised or worked with the candidate and can speak about his/her experience and skills
