ELECTION OF ONE (1) ACADEMIC EMPLOYEE AND ONE (1) MEMBER OF THE PROFESSIONAL, ADMINISTRATIVE AND SUPPORT STAFF (PASS) TO SERVE ON THE COUNCIL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WESTERN CAPE
RESULTS OF THE ELECTION OF AN ACADEMIC AND A PASS STAFF MEMBER TO SERVE ON COUNCIL FOR THE PERIOD 1 DECEMBER 2023 TO 30 NOVEMBER 2026
Dear Campus Community,
Sections 8.2.4 and 8.2.5 of the University of the Western Cape Statute, 2018 (“the Statute, 2018”) makes provision for the election of one (1) academic and one (1) professional, administrative and support staff (PASS) member of the University to serve on Council for a period of three (3) years. The terms of the current academic and PASS members serving on Council are due to end on 30 November 2023.
A nomination and election process, as prescribed by the Statute, 2018, started with a call for nominations on 31 July 2023. The nomination process concluded on 14 August 2023. Nominations received were opened under the supervision of a representative of the Legal Services Department and the nominees and nominators verified by the Human Resources Department. An election was conducted electronically between 09h00 on 17 August 2023 and 12h00 on 22 August 2023.
Based on the results, the following colleagues have been elected to serve on Council for the period 1 December 2023 to 30 November 2026:
(i) Prof Shaun Pather, in the category of one academic employee of the University; and
(ii) Ms Lucille Teegler, in the category of one professional, support or administrative staff (PASS) member of the University.
