Faculty of EMS Colloquium on "Decolonisation of the Curriculum", 16 March 2018
The discussion focused on one of the chapters of Prof Jonathan Jansen's book, As by fire: The end of the South African University, namely Chapter 7:
"Sense and non-sense in the decolonisation of curriculum". The paper had been pre-circulated to academic staff of the EMS Faculty.
The Colloquium was facilitated by Prof Matthew Ocran, Professor and Chair, Dept of Economics, and Deputy Dean - Academic Planning, EMS Faculty.
Prof Moenieba Isaacs, Acting Director of the Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS) was the Discussant of the Paper.
The participants engaged in a lively discussion, raising questions around identity, the role of the university in society, decolonisation of the academic, and decolonising society as key components of the decolonisation of the tertiary curriculum.
