It is with much excitement to announce that the Global Environmental Law Centre (GELC) is launching it's social media pages!

We would like to take this opportunity to share some news about the GELC and to raise awareness on an important occasion taking place on June 5th.

But first - some brief info about the GELC - We are a research centre based in Cape Town, South Africa, at the University of Western Cape, Faculty of Law. We are affiliated to the Department of Public Law and Jurisprudence. We strive for globally impactful research, teaching and knowledge exchange in a wide range of interconnected areas relating to global environmental law and governance. The GELC was formally established in 2019 with the aim to foster legal research and innovation to enhance the ways that environmental law and governance frameworks and systems respond to global environmental crises particularly associated with the Anthropocene – think climate change, deforestation, urbanization, widespread extinction of species, loss of biodiversity and disappearing ecosystems!

We are excited to use our social media platforms to share our research output and activities and to share recent developments in environmental law and global environmental challenges.

On this note – This post also serves as a reminder that June 5th is World Environmental Day – the theme for this year is “Ecosystem Restoration". There are several online events hosted by UNEP in celebration of this day. For more information on how YOU can participate or view the events see:
