Golden Key initiative warms Western Cape hearts

As the Western Cape prepares for the cold winter ahead, the University of the Western Cape (UWC) will be warming the lives of those less fortunate this winter with their annual Winter Drive initiative.

UWC’s Winter Drive is a community service initiative implemented by the institution and its Golden Key International Honour Society.  This initiative collects non-perishable food items, clothing, and blankets for the poor and hungry in and around the city of Cape Town.

The items collected are handed over to the Community Chest to distribute to the destitute and those who are vulnerable during the winter.

The UWC Chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society and the campus community have been a formidable unit in ensuring the success of this event. In 2013 more than 8000 items of clothing, blankets and non-perishables were donated by ordinary Capetonians and corporate sponsors with generous hearts.

This year, the campaign named “Your Goodies are Gold”, aims to reach a target of 10 000 blankets   – in addition to donated clothing and non-perishable food items and is appealing to everyone to get involved in this worthy cause.
