ICS Shutdown 24 May
ICS will be upgrading the UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) systems in our Data Centre on Sunday 24 May.
The old systems have served us well since the first load shedding experiences in 2006 and the newer systems being installed aim to provide sufficient capacity for future growth and give us capability to explore alternative energy forms for the Data Centre.
To do the upgrade we need to shut down all systems in the ICS Data Centre. All our systems will be unavailable - including email, internet and the UWC website. The shutdown will take place on Sunday 24 May from 6 am to 9 pm.
We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause and ask those directly affected on the day, to plan for the expected outage.
UPS systems do more than just provide emergency power when the Eskom or municipal electrical feed fails (blackout). They provide filtering to protect against electrical spikes (surge in voltage usually up to 6000 V), brownouts ( low voltage below recommended limits for constant periods) and Radio Frequency interference (RFI) from damaging sensitive equipment.
