Dear Campus Community

As you are aware, Health Minister Joe Phaahla repealed COVID-19 regulations recently. The University’s COVID-19 Response Task Team (CRTT) met on June 30 to discuss this and other pertinent issues. The University management has also approved a Draft Return to Campus Risk Plan for consultation and comment.

The CRTT resolved that in the interim:

1. Mask wearing on campus is voluntary and recommended.
2. Temperature screening on campus will no longer be compulsory.
3. Social distancing will not be enforced, but please do keep a safe distance.
4. Staff, students and visitors  do not require authorisation to access campus.
5. CRTT agreed that approval of events no longer requires CRTT approval. All future applications for events/functions will be based on the normal process (pre-COVID-19). But event/functions must include a component of health and safety with regards to addressing the safety protocols as required and based on the context of the event and venue highlighting COVID-19 precautions. It will be expected that some applications will still require review by the Risk and Compliance Office.
6. Staff members’ return to campus will be on a phased approach and must be cleared with their relevant reporting line.
7. Students' return to campus will be based on a phased approach and notifications will be issued by the relevant faculties within the next two months.

Individuals must take responsibility for their health and safety when accessing UWC property. We encourage individual awareness and sensitivity to our fellow staff, students and guests who have underlying chronic conditions as we continue to live with COVID-19.

Furthermore, we remind you that the UWC Vaccination Centre is now located in the Human Resources Training room next to the Main Hall. The vaccination centre is open from Monday to Friday from 09h00 to 14h00.
